Boost Up Your Self-Confidence

Boost Up Your Self-Confidence

One day when I was standing on the BTS, and one hand was holding the pole, the other hand was scrolling down my iPhone. I found a quote shared on Facebook, and it goes “Be like a proton, always stay positive!” People often ask me “how do you manage be so confident?” I want to have confidence like you. Well, I always take it as a compliment.

The way to build self-confidence is a journey. Confidence is derived from Latin word which means “with Faith”. The confidence skill is the ability to believe, to hold faith in yourself, believing that you can accomplish any tasks no matter the odds, no matter the difficulties, no matter the adversities. How to build self-confidence skill? I intentionally use the word “skill” because I believe that it can be trained. Self-confidence can be exercised, strengthened and maximized.

#1 Self-confidence is like mental muscle. If you want to grow stronger muscle, you must exercise. It’s good from time to time to remind yourself how lucky and awesome you are. Keep collecting all the positivity, all the good memories. Keep exercising that thought on your head. Stay positive. Try to think of a glass half-full instead of a glass half-empty.

#2 Don’t forget to surround yourself with positive and confident people. Get away from the negativity. Get rid of people who bring you down. Find someone you can trust and share your insecurity with. I usually notice people around me. They start to have more confidence when they are with me, and the confidence continues growing.

#3 The easiest way to build self-confidence is to find your own quality. Ask yourself a simple question “What am I good at?” Don’t take too long to think about it. There is no right or wrong answer. It can be: I’m good at singing, I’m honest, I’m a good listener, I can paint very well, I can play sport,  and so on. And if you don’t know at this point, let’s try something new like take cooking class, go camping, or travel. Those qualities don’t have to be perfect. It can anything you feel good about or proud of it.

How many times was J.K. Rowling rejected before Harry Potter first published? The answer is more than ten. How many times was Thomas Edison trying to create the light bulb? More than 10000 tries! Do not accept failure. There’s going to be lots of ups and downs. The road to self-confidence is never a straight-even road. There’s going to be bumps along the way. It may not happen overnight, but you’re going to build your confidence grow stronger each passing day and night. Remember this; Rome wasn’t built in one day. Find your own path, pave your own way. You can only make a change, if you become a change.
