To make a garland is not too complicated. I’ll explain to you in 3 easy steps on how to make a simple traditional garland. The first step is that you need to have the basic tools to make a Thai flower garland, and they are a foot-long needle, ribbon that you can pick any color that you want, crown flowers, jasmines and roses. For this project, roses will be used but we can also use marigold, depending on each person’s desire. The supplies can be purchased through the famous flower market called “Pak khlong talad” which is 24hour market located in the middle of Bangkok, or at other local markets. For the next step, Let’s get started. The 4 crown flowers will be stabbed in a row by the long needle with the thread and then thread the jasmine into 5 v-shaped projections for 6 times. After that, thread some crown flowers and put 2 roses in the end. Now you can attach the ribbon tie on the top of the garland, and it is now finished. Lastly, make the use of it. Garlands are presented at many festivals and joyous occasions, such as graduations, birthdays and weddings, for the sign of good luck. For example, they can be draped around the neck of the bride and bridegroom at the wedding. They are also be hang in the car at the inside’s mirror or dashboard as a symbol of good luck to protect them from the accidents.
