As The Walking Dead season 6 came out along with tons of zombie movies like boy scouts, pride and prejudice and zombies (yep, that’s a movie title DANG!!!) so everywhere you look these days, you’re bound to run into a bunch of bloody zombies. So, I think it is time for us, as Chulalongkorn University students, to take zombies subject more seriously and be prepared for an outbreak.
To begin with, we have to know more about zombie apocalypse, we can learn what we might encounter by watching zombie movies and, of cause, TV series. Zombies in each story are different but I think the best way for us to survive is to be ready for the worst kind of them, for instant, the zombies that run real fast or the ones that able think. It’s because if the zombies turn out to be slow corpse like in ‘The Walking Dead (wishful thinking) we can beat them MORE easily.
However, knowledge about zombies alone can’t keep us alive; we must also know the basic survival principle “The Rule of 3”. The Rule of Threes for survival says you’re dead in three minutes without air, three hours without shelter, three days without water and three weeks without food. Apparently, the air we breathe will stay the same; hence, here we must focus on the shelter, water and food!
For shelter, in Chulalongkorn University, we have a lot of great buildings for shelter: tall facilities buildings like Chamuchuri 9 which I highly recommend here because it has medical supplies and food stores and escalators that are easily to be blocked and also the roof top for fresh air. Buildings with thick wall and metal door like the sport complex and the stadium are also great place for shelter, plus, there are water machines for ultimate usage of water. Still, we will need to get the supplies and for this matter, we better head to dormitory groceries or in-campus 7-11 because if we head for off-campus store, there’s going to be too many other people, too chaotic – you tend not to get what you want and for the worst case scenario…one of us might got bitten. Fortunately, we can act now by start stocking up the supplies, we better be prepared right?
Another thing that needed to be considered is weapons so that we can eliminate the number of the walkers. As students HOW ON EARTH ARE WE GOING TO GET THE WEAPONS? Well, we have a sword fight and gun shooting club, crazy engineering an architecture tools, super thick books with sharp edges and the seems-like-great-heavy-zombies-smashing dumbbells, all covered!!! We just need to figure which kind of theses can-be-use-as-a-weapon suit us best. We can also start practicing ahead by join these fight clubs. But bear in mind that the gun noise may draw more zombies to us so if we can kill it in silence, the possibility for us to kill more of the zombies before you got killed will be greater. Oh! And always aim for the head, destroy their brains!
Lastly, we must hang on our humanity and use the best of our skills. It is better to fight in a team than fight alone. Chulalongkorn University has 20 faculties++ so if we can gather all of us from different faculties, we can help each other in our own skillful fields we have learnt. For instant, doctor students may be able to cure and save our butts if we have a wound or more complex problem that our first-aid skill can, engineering student and proof our shelter with stronger structure and such. But most importantly, we need to stop the urges to do bad things even when we are despair and stress out because it will only cause more problems and we don’t want any more problems!!! Just don’t let the evil thought win, remember that whenever we watch movies, series or read books, the good guys will always win. ALWAYS. So please be good.
After all, we are the pillar of the kingdom; we will survive the zombie apocalypse together. It not a matter of if but the matter of time that those horrify zombie will invade our life outside TV. So be ready. Let us keep our brains in our heads – where they belong!
