The Thai tourism train is the rail service that the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has set up to support tourism in Thailand. There are two types of train in this service based on distance.
The shorter distance type is the “one-day-trip” train, which has eight routes. Mostly the destination of each route is Kanchanaburi or Prachuapkhirikhan province, but it will be a different train station and tourist attraction. The cost of the ticket is very cheap when compared with the other ways of traveling. It costs about 120฿ to 740฿.
For the more adventurous, there is also the “long-trip” train. It has 11 routes on the run with a variety of the destinations. Some go to Laos; some to Myanmar or even Vietnam. The long-trip train takes three to nine days to travel because each route goes to at least 4 counties. With the extended travel distance, of course, comes extended cost. The ticket costs around 2,400฿ to 22,000฿, but you don’t have to pay for the hotels on the trip because you can sleep on the train.
These two types of tourism train service are great for when you want to travel on your weekends or take a longer vacation. Enjoy!
