When we talk about Disney princesses, the first thing that comes up to our mind would be the fairy stories used for entertaining children, but there is something behind those stories. Disney princesses show the improvement of despising.
One point is racism issue. Originally, most of Disney princesses were white due to the social value. Later on, Disney created nonwhite princesses namely Pocahontas, Mulan, and Tiana which proves that Disney is not the racist. However, these three princesses were not born royal. Thus, no one actually was a real princess. It is a well try but Disney has to try more.
Another point is sexism. Since Disney began the era by creating white beautiful royal princesses like Snow White, Cinderella, and Aurora, it sets the standard of ideal princesses. Unfortunately, these princesses show the huge sexism. Though they are pretty, they are useless. They can neither make decision nor do anything but waiting for their princes to rescue them. Nevertheless, Disney make an improvement of the feminism issue from the first era to the latest. Pocahontas, Mulan, and Tiana again set the new standard. They are courageous, vigorous ,and they can do a lot of things beside chores and wishing to meet a good guy. Pocahontas is the first princess who recuses her prince and also has tattoo, Mulan is a great warriors who has the big role to help her country, and Tiana is a smart girl who is a talented chef and she is the first princess who has a career. This is different from all the dreamy girls that Disney has made. Disney also takes a step forward by finally reins Elsa from “Frozen” to be the first queen without marrying any king. Now, Disney is moving forward to step across the gap of skin tones and genders. I, as Disney princess’s fan, am looking forward to seeing the new generation of princess without any despising as well.
